Shelby was at the vet's today!

Took Shelby for a blood pressure check on Saturday and discovered she had an abcessed tooth!  Poor Baby!  She got that one pulled today, so now she doesn't have any teeth on her upper jaw on the left side!  Of course, since she doesn't chew her food, this isn't a problem!!

Once I got her home, Bailey (my new cat, see my av atar) didn't recognize her!!  It was so funny.  He followed her around with this tail all fluffed up.  I guess the anesthesia made her smell funny.  Anyway, it lasted for more than 3 hours---now, of course, he's back to attacking her with no warning (except for the bell on his collar).

The new guy in my life

Look, it's the newest guy in my life--Bailey White Smith!!  I mentioned him in my last post!  He's been with us for a month now.  Unfortunately, he didn't bond with Mom; he bonded with me--after all, I have the thing that interests him the most--Shelby Lynn.  She's still unsure what to think of him, but I can tell you one thing, Shelby has the cleanest ears of any cat in the world.  He cleans them well, when he's not chewing on them, that is!  Here she is--she's my little fat girl.
Shelby Lynn

Still looking for a job, but things could always be worse.  I think Mom got Bailey so I wouldn't be so depressed!!  He is a laugh riot--he's curious about everything and can't stand being out of the action.

I'll try to be better updating here, but I've promised that before.

Well, after 15 years at a job I loved, they eliminated my position.  Sometimes I feel like I wasted that time, and then I look at the friends I made and the support I've gotten since it happened, and I realize that I was pretty lucky.  Unfortunately, my luck always runs out eventually.  So if anyone knows of jobs in the Kansas City Metro area, drop me a line.

On a more positive note, my Mom got a new cat yesterday.  Her friend Debby's daughter was given a kitten and the apartment complex where they live wouldn't let them keep it.  Mom agreed to take it sight unseen!  They know nothing about cats and didn't even realize it was a male!!  So funny!!  I wanted to name him Shinobu or Simon, but Mom named him Bailey.  Boy, I'd forgotten how busy kittens can be!!  I played fetch with him for hours yesterday.  My cat Shelby isn't taking to him too easily, but it's been less than 24 hours, so maybe she'll calm down eventually!!  He is a cutie--a little grey and white kitty!  I'll try to take his picture to show everyone!

More later!!

Well, we finally got our air conditioner replaced on Monday.  What a relief!!  I'm feeling better, Mom's feeling better (except for her summer cold), even the cat (Shelby Lynn) is feeling better.  It cost a little over $3200, but well worth the money.

Well, the 4th of July is tomorrow.  We live in a city where fireworks are pretty much completely legal (no bottlerockets--although people still shoot them off).  I hate all the noise and mess.  Plus, the smoke fills the air.  Our neighbors shoot off so many fireworks on the evening of the 4th, the air is so smokey it's hard to see across the street sometimes.  At least this only goes on on 7/4 and on New Year's Eve.  I wonder how much money is spent on this stuff!

Anyway, Happy Birthday America, even though I disagree with most of the policies set by either the Republicans or the Democrats!  Hopefully, people around the world don't always identify the people the US with their government!

I HATE SUMMER

Well, a heat wave has hit the Kansas City area, and our air conditioning is out.  Talk about miserable!  I'm in the basement, so things aren't quite as bad for me as they are for my Mom.  Last night, the house was 93 degrees at 10:30 pm!  I love the humidity, though!  It helps keep the pollen down--so my allergies haven't been bugging me as much.

I've started reading The Mortal Instruments--not as good as Twilight--but well written.  I highly recommend them!

As usual, I'm behind the times--but I've turned into a total Twilight fan!  Haven't seen the movie yet, but I love the books.  First, I just downloaded pdf's so I could give them a try, but now, I'm buying them outright.  Holding a book is always better than reading from my Treo!!

There are lots of Twilight communities, and I've gotten some great fanmixes.  If you haven't check out any of these communites, I recommend them highly.

Whoa, it's been so long!

And yet again, I hnave to apologize for not updating as often as I should.  The fan fiction sites have me under their spell--it's a terrible kind of addiction (just kidding).

Spring has arrived, and I, for one, am not all that happy about the approaching warm weather.  In fact, I hate summer and wish it would stay 55 degrees or lower year round.  I mean--ya gotta to cut the grass and keep down weeds, deal with the bugs (especially the cicadas--noisy and ugly), and sweat every time you go outside.  At least it isn't humid, although people in the Kansas City area think it's humid--give me a break!  It's humid when you never get dry after a shower!

Oh well, enough complaining!  I'm following several stories on fanfiction dot net and some here on live journal.  Check out my friends to see some of the ones around!

Catch you later!

My life is so boring I can't imagine anyone being all that interested in work-eat-play on computer-sleep!  Oh well.  Everything seems to be going fine.  My cat Shelby Lynn is doing well on her meds and even seems to enjoy the crunchies she gets after I give her the blood pressure stuff.  Boy, is that stuff sticky and terrible tasting.  It's supposed to be beef flavored, but for her, cheese would be better.

Been reading a lot of fan fiction lately, joined several communites just today!!

Don't you love my avatar?  One of the clever people at the Junjou Romantica community created it.  Well, I've bored you enough--I'll try to come up with something better next time!!  Have a good week.

Wow, is it cold!  We're expecting temps below zero tonight and a high of 12 tomorrow.  I guess that's winter in the Kansas City Metro area.  That may be even too cold for me!  I love winter and hate summer.  I figure I can always put more clothes on in the winter, but I can't take off as many as I want when it's hot without getting arrested!!

The inauguration is coming up, and I hope that everything goes well.  I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed when things don't change as quickly as they think they should!

I'm trying to clean the house from top tobottom before then end of the month.  I should have done it before New Year's, but shit happens.

Natterin' again

Nothing much to report on this end.  Same old, same old.  The only weird thing going on is the weather--it starts out at 60 degrees and drops more than 40 degrees in 6 hours (sometimes even more quickly).  Lots of snow, a little bit of ice--which is really pretty if you don't have to drive in it.

Been trying new music I've downloaded via torrents--mostly trance and techno.  I kinda got hooked on it via the AMV's people have done on Junjou Fanatics--what a great group!!

New Year's Eve is tomorrow--Mom and I usually go out to one of the casinos for a little while--it's like a tradition.  My sister hates it, but if you go early and get out before the nuts hit the road, it's lots of fun.

I'm going to start trying to write some JR fanfics--won't promise it they'll ever see the light of day!!  It's been a long time since I've written any fiction!!

Take care and drive safely over the New Year's Holiday!!

Second snowfall of the year

Yay!!  It snowed today (not even a dusting, but I was happy)!!  They--the weather forecasters--had said it would be an inch or two until 10:00 last night, then it was "Well, we might just get by with a dusting."  They even got that wrong--they were the tiniest flakes.  But--it snowed--I really like winter much more than summer.  I would be happy if it were about 55 degrees all year long, cool enough to work outside without sweating too much, warm enough to sit in the sun and read.

Of course, I don't want too much snow before I get the rest of the leaves off the lawn.  I got some done last week, but it's hard when it's windy.

I've been watching the first 4 episodes of the second season on Junjou Romantica.  I put them on DVD, so I can use my computer and see them on the TV.  I can't wait for the rest of them to uploaded and translated.  They've been lots of fun.  All of the people over at Junjou Fanatics are really interesting, so I recommend you head over there and join the discussion.

Until next time, be safe!

I have no excuse for not posting-I just kinda forget to do it.  It was a quiet Thanksgiving--Mom and my sister had to work, so it was just me, the TV, and the cat.  Not too bad, though--Thanksgiving has never really meant anything for me.

Been downloading lots of things, so I've been busy writing anime to DVD.  Just finished the first season of Orphen.  Thinking about moving on to Slayers--I know the animation isn't the greatest, but the stories are funny.

Also spent part of the weekend reading the 12 volumes of xxxHolic that have been released.  Looking for more to read--that's why I like scanlation sites.  They let me see what I might want to buy.

Have a safe rest of the weekend!!

GO VOTE

I had the week before last off, and had tons of stuff do do when I got back.  Sometimes, I don't think it's worth even taking time off.

I've already voited--thank the Gods I live in a state with advanced voting--and it took over 2 hours.  Because I live in the state of Kansas, my presidential vote never really matters, but the local and state-wide ones do!!  For all those registered voters, I urge you to make your voices heard--you don't have the right to complain if you don't vote!!

Sorry it's been so long since I've written anything.  I can't honestly say I have an excuse--it's just that nothing much interesting has been going on.

Giving Shelby her medication has gotten much easier.  I decided to ignore the vet's recommendations and give it to her head on rather than from behind.

I work at a fire department (office--not on a truck), and the entire county is working on a history book (we do this every 10 years).  I got volunteered for it, so a lot of my imagination has been sidetracked by it.  Our portion is due on Thursday, so things should calm down by then.

I'll try to write more later this week.  Take care!!!

Sick at home today

There's a stomach virus in the KC metro area, and I was lucky enough to catch it from my Mom, who was sick all weekend.

The rain last Friday into Saturday was truly amazing.  When I got up on Saturday, there was water in my room and in the laundry room (I have the basement to myself (I say that, but actually, Shelby allows me to live here with her--you know cats, all things in their territory belong to them!).  Anyway, it looks like there was a hairline crack in the cemet floor down here, and the large amount of rain rain made the crack a real one.  I'll have to call in the foundation people, probably.  I don't know when I'll do that, though.  I mean, it doesn't really rain like that very often.

I've been trying to download the first 78 episodes of Kyou Kara Maou through bittorrent, but some asshole keeps pinging me.  Oh well, if I'm able to go to work tomorrow, I'll finish it there.  Then they can ping me as much as they want!

Natters in the rain

It's been awhile, everyone!  The tornado sirens went off several times this evening, which is always exciting.  We've gotten 3 inches of rain in the last 4 hours or so!

My mother continues to mourn the loss of her cat, so I hope she'll consider getting a kitten sometime soon.  I think she needs something else to obsess about.

My cat has kidney disease and high blood pressure.  Giving her medicine is such a hassle.  It's amazing how strong a 15 pound cat can be.  The food she takes for her kidney disease is expensive, but she really loves it.  Because so little damage has been done, it should slow down the progression of the disease by a great deal.  I'm glad, since the last 2 cats I lost were due to kidney disease--Samantha, who lived to be 22, and Tabitha, who was only 15 when she died.

Nattering about cats, again

The long Labor Day weekend was a little too long.  As you all know, Tabitha had to be put to sleep on Thursday.  Mom is still shocked by the whole thing.  Then I had to take the other cat, Shelby, to the vet's for a check up.  He called today to say that she has the beginnings of kidney disease (the same thing that got Tab) and that I need to bring her back in to have her blood pressure checked and to start planning what we want to do to manage her disease.

I hope to take Mom in to get a kitten within the next few weeks.  I think it will help here a lot.

Talk to all of you later!

Well, things got so bad with Tabitha Anne (my cat) that we decided to put her to sleep rather than make her suffer.  She'd begun to have almost constant seizures, so she was starting to have brain-damage.  Mom and I have spent a good portion of the day talking about her and crying a lot.  I know there are a lot of people who would say it's stupid to mourn for a cat--but pets give you love, they watch over you when you're feeling badly, and they protect the house (Tab was very territorial and protective of the stuff that belonged to her--namely, everything in the house).

Please keep my mom in your thoughts as she struggles through this!

What an awful day!  One of my cats is in acute kidney failure and is spending 2 days at the vets.  We're hoping that 2 days of hospitalization with pain killers, antibiotics, and IV fluids will help.  The Doc said we'd re-evaluate on Thursday.  Poor little Tabitha!

Tabitha just loves my Mom and my Mom just loves Tab, so this is really hard on her.  Then, this morning the cardiologist called to say that it looks like her thyroid is larger than it was the last time they checked, so they want to do an aspiration.  Could be nothing (she's had a goiter since before I was born--I'm 47) but not good news on such a sad day.

That's all I can say today.  I'm going to Junjou Fanatics and let the others cheer me up!!

I've been downloading Antique Bakery since it started to appear out on the 'net.  Now, I am working on converting them and writing to DVD.  That's how I get my weekly Junjou fix.  I put all the episodes already out on DVD.  It is very reassuring to me that I can watch them any time I want.  Now, I just have to get the things I want the most.
